Light Rail Routes Considered

September 6, 2006 · 1 Comment

The Arizona Republic reported thatlocal authorities are considering a number of new and additional routes for Phoenix Metro’s light rail. This could have a significant impact on real estate and the demand for land and properties in these specific areas. New routes considered:

• Connecting Arizona State University campuses in Glendale, Scottsdale and, ultimately, Mesa.

• Extending tracks to Cardinals Stadium and Westgate Center in Glendale.

• Abandoning an extension west over Interstate 17 into the heart of Glendale.

• Scrapping a 2-mile spur on Rural Road toward south Tempe and, instead, building a 20-plus mile line up Scottsdale Road.

• Bids are being sought for concept studies on the Mesa and south Tempe extensions.

• Early findings are expected this month on a new Metro study, years before expected, of how transit along I-10 might work.
Also, considered: “Instead of first going north from Spectrum Mall to near Metrocenter mall in Phoenix, Valley leaders are now considering going west along Interstate 10 to serve new developments and weary commuters.”
